Dean's Office

Dean Cherry A. MurrayWelcome. I am honored to become, on July 1, 2009, the dean of the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS). I consider the role as a career opportunity of a lifetime.

While I am new to the community, in many ways, I already feel a deep personal and professional connection to the School’s teaching and research mission.

The SEAS community connects advances in research and innovations in engineering and technology with science, the humanities, and areas such as business, medicine, public health, and law.

I think of SEAS as more than just an exceptional place to learn and conduct research. It is a bridge to the incredible intellectual resources of one of the world’s great universities. SEAS is an organization free of traditional departments and increasingly connected to all parts of Harvard.

Cultivated by such a creative environment, students and researchers enjoy the freedom to do better science, work across disciplines, be more innovative, become entrepreneurs, and take risks---all with the aim of making a real difference in the world.

I am eager to build upon what this exceptional institution already does so well: providing a lively environment for learning and discovery, sharing diverse thinking and expertise across the globe, and fostering the next generation of leaders, who understand the complexities of technology and society, to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Whether you are a gadget guru, a theory maven, or just plain curious about the increasingly fascinating role that science and engineering play in our lives, I encourage you to explore with us.
